Clermont County Legislator named to Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission
February 1, 2010
Columbus, OH - The House Republican Caucus announced this week the appointment of Rep. Joe
Uecker (R-Miami Township) to the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission.
The purpose of the Commission is to study Ohio's criminal laws as well as sentencing patterns and
make recommendations to the General Assembly that
encourage public safety, simplification, victim's rights, and to make cost-effective proposals. The
Commission also reviews related bills introduced in the General Assembly.
"I look forward to serving with the Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice and the other members of the
Sentencing Commission to continue to look for
ways to improve our criminal justice system," Uecker said in a statement. "I believe the years I
served as a police officer will act to further the
Commission's role in strengthening our laws to help better protect our citizens."
In 1990, the Ohio Legislature established the Commission to study, and make recommendations on, the state's criminal sentencing laws. The Sentencing Commission is
chaired by Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Moyer. It meets monthly and consists of 31 members, who include ten judges, two defense attorneys and three
law enforcement leaders. All members serve without additional compensation.
For more information call Representative Uecker at his Columbus Office at (614) 466-8134, or
locally at (513) 532-0912.
